How do I download and install EZQuote?

Save the downloaded setup file in any location on your hard drive and double click the setup file to start the installation. Just follow the instructions during the installation process. After installation is complete, you will have directory ED Consulting/EZQuote in your Program Files directory. In addition, you will have sample data in the directory called EZQuoteData or EZQuoteLiteData. You can launch EZQuote from the start programs menu or your desktop.

How does it work?

EZQuote can download historical and recent quotes. The default time interval for the historical quotes is two years. That is, if you wish to download quotes for a new symbol on your list, EZQuote will get you the quotes for that symbol up to two years back from today's date. You can change that range before you download the quotes. Updated recent quotes are available during market hours or after the market hours. The recent quotes are delayed 15-20 minutes depending on the exchange.

Where does the market data come from?

EZQuote downloads quotes available through free internet data servers such as Yahoo Finance server.

What do I need to use EZQuote?

You need an active internet connection. If you are using firewall, you should change it's settings to allow EZQuote to connect to the internet and receive the data. You need charting software that can read Metastock or ASCII data, such as Metastock, Tradestation, Elliott Wave Analyzer II, Advanced Get 7.x, MS Excel or any other program.

Does EZQuote append newer data or overwrites existing files?

EZQuote overwrites the last available record (last date available in the file) and appends all the following new records. The reason for such overwriting is that such record maybe an intraday update and is not final EOD record.

Why do I receive seem to be corrupted data during morning hours?

The data server cleans up the latest quotes before the market opening at 9:30 EST; therefore, it is not advisable to download quotes right before the market opening. Although, if you did, there is nothing to worry about. It will be back to normal if you get recent updates AFTER the opening.

What are the limitations of the trial version?

There are no limitations during a free trial period.

How do I register EZQuote?

You can click Help/Buy EZQuote option under the main menu which will take you directly to the website where you can purchase EZQuote. After your payment is confirmed, you will be asked to send an email containing your product serial number. If you lost that number you can retrieve it by clicking Help/About option in the main menu. As soon as we receive your product serial number, we will send you an email containing your activation code. Select Help/Register from the main menu and type in the activation code to complete the registration. This will update your registry and remove all the locks inside EZQuote. Your copy of EZQuote will be fully functional for unlimited period of time.

Why I cannot download quotes?

One of the two reasons:
(1)Data server is temporarily down. It closes up for the maintenance, usually in odd hours and not frequently. Just check back in a little while.
(2)Metastock has open charts. Metastock locks the data file when it opens the chart for such file. For that reason, you have to close all your opened charts in Metastock before downloading quotes with EZQuote.

How do I uninstall EZQuote?

Go to the control panel, add or remove programs. You should be able to remove EZQuote from there. Please notice that the uninstall process will also remove all the sample data which comes with the installation (EZQuoteData or EZQuoteLiteData directories) by deleting those directories. Therefore, you should save the data in those directories if you need it later.

How does it work?

In EZTrading Club you cannot trade intraday. Your orders are not executed or matched at the same business day but the next day. You can enter your orders any time, during or after the market hours, but your today's orders will be matched and filled based on tomorrow's market data. It doesn't mean that you have to wait until the market is closed tomorrow. You can check on your orders during the market hours.

What is a margin account?

A margin account allows you to use of borrowed money to buy securities with the expectation of magnifying profits. Margin trading can lead greater returns, but is also very risky. In EZTrading Club we assign you a margin of 50%. That will double the buying power of your account and will let you buy more stocks, but will increase your losses as well.

Margin accounts also have the ability to sell short. When selling short, you borrow stock from a firm in order to sell it, hoping that the price will decline. The difference between the initial sell price and the closing buy is your profit or loss. However if the stock rises, you can be exposed to unlimited risk.

What is a limit order?

A limit order is an order to execute a trade at a specified price (the limit) or better. The limit price sets an activation price and the order will not be filled unless the limit price is triggered by the stock trading at that specific price or better.

A market order is an order for immediate execution at the best available price when the order reaches the marketplace. Generally, a market order assures execution but not price.

  TOP

What is a stop order?

Stop orders (sometimes are called protective stop orders) are generally placed "away" from the current price of a stock, and are only activated if and when the stock trades at, or trades through, the stop price. Sell stop orders are entered below the current price, and buy stop orders are entered above the current price. There are two types of stop orders: Stop Market and Stop Limit.

Stop Market would become a Market Order as soon as it is activated and Stop Limit order would become a Limit order as soon as it is activated at activation price. Therefore, for a Stop Limit order you would need to set a limit price in addition to the activation price.

What is a trailing stop order?

Trailing Stops are entered with a Stop Parameter that creates a moving or "trailing" activation price. The Stop Parameter can be entered in points or by percentage of the current price.

Sell Trailing Stops are used in long stock positions to maximize and protect profit in rising markets and limit losses in falling markets. Buy Trailing Stops are used in short stock positions to maximize and protect profits when the market is falling, or to limit losses if the market is rising.

Why my initial account limited to 20,000 dollars?

We, at EZTrading Club, believe that you benefit from paper trading only if it's realistic. We do not allow the clients to open imaginary accounts worth of 100,000 or 200,000 dollars. In our opinion that would only lead to irresponsible trading practice, which is not the purpose of paper trading.

Why I cannot deposit more funds to my account?

Unlike in the real world, you can not deposit more funds into your account at EZTrading Club. If you have no funds on your account left to trade, it means, first of all, there is something wrong with your strategy and you need to change it. After you come up with the new strategy and ready to trade, close your old depleted account and open the new one.

Why do I have webpage errors?

You have to enable cookies, scripting and be able to run signed ActiveX controls. Go to the Control Panel/Internet Options/Security folder. Set security to Medium level or just click Default Level button. Do the same in the Privacy folder to enable cookies. These are default Windows settings and very safe.

  TOP

What is a protected order?

This is a custom type of order which lets you place a limit (market) order for the next trading day as a regular limit (market) order, but you can also set up a stop loss order for the same trade. For example, you can send a buy limit order for ABC at 10.0 or lower (a limit order), and you can specify that you also want a stop loss order at 9.6 (stop loss order) if your first order is executed.
You can use the same order type to sell short with stop loss set above your expected execution price.

  TOP

What is an intraday order?

This is the only NOT end-of-day type of order in EZTrading Club. Unlike any other orders this type of order will execute immediately. You don't have to wait for the next trading day to fill this order. It is only available during trading hours and works for all US exchanges, Toronto, Australian and London exchanges. The data is still delayed in all markets.
